Pretty Cool Containers

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Adam Kalkin is a designer from NYC. He is a designer that completed a project that took ordinary shipping containers and turned them into a pretty cool home for someone to live. And whilst you might think that it would be cold, hard, and poorly ventilated, Adam used his pretty cool design skills to make it something that we here at Yeah its Pretty Cool would love to use as an office.

With the earths resources twindling at a rapid rate, the desire of people to live in the city, and the rising costs of land and housing; the idea of taking a shipping container, which has been designed to with-stand pretty much anything - makes almost complete sense.

It appears though that Adam isnt the only one with this pretty cool idea. There are others converting containers into something very cool - even combining office and dwelling into one. Below is a snippet from a feature about pretty cool containers in England. The designer in charge makes a very valid point about how containers are designed to stack and hold their weight, and hence they added an extra floor to their pretty cool container complex in an extremely short time.
